Review:
Ken Navarro
The Meeting Place

Review by John Luciano
Ken Navarro’s latest recording, The Meeting Place, represents everything, that in my opinion, makes contemporary jazz (read – not smooth) so enjoyable and satisfying; superb musicianship, strong and imaginative compositions, excellent arranging, live drums (no click-track), and diverse interplay among the lead instrumental voices. It’s evident through the stellar production and sound quality that Navarro is a master at his craft, which for the most part, has been devoid of anything remotely approaching major label support. The music industry (read – major labels) may be going through a tough time, navigating the changing technological landscape, but as long as there are musicians like Ken Navarro, who possess the talent and the will to put out music on their terms – the music industry, and more importantly, the fans, will be just fine.
