Review:
Danny Weis
Sweet Spot

Review by John Luciano
Seven Degrees of Separation – there's a theory about how we're all connected by either knowing someone or to someone who knows someone else, within at least seven degrees. Guitarist Danny Weis has a most interesting connection, which is only two degrees from "In-A-Gada-Da-Vida" – he was the original guitarist and co-founder of the mid 1960s hard rock group Iron Butterfly; hanging around for their first record, but leaving the group before it recorded their 17 minute rock opus. Sweet Spot couldn’t be further from Weis' hard rock pedigree. I found his overall sound and compositions very comparable to Larry Carlton; that is to say, great songwriting, a lot of guitar – sax interplay, and a strong similarity to Carlton's jazz/country/blues sound. Weis has definitely hit the Sweet Spot with this release.
