Jamiroquai, Clarke, Keston and Westdal, and More News

Truth Is Stranger by Keston and WestdalI’m sure I blogged about this before, but the early albums by Jamiroquai are some of my all-time favorites. I still dig the jazzy vibe on the majority of those songs. I was pretty excited to read a report on funkin.net (the source for Jamiroquai news) about Jay Kay recording a jazz album. . . Keston and Westdal have signed with Unearthed Music and are releasing a full CD entitled Truth Is Stranger on March 13. Already playing it on TomorrowJazz Radio. . . Other new releases to look forward to: Best of Down to the Bone (2/6), Russell Gunn Plays Miles (1/30; a collection of jazz standards associated with Miles Davis interpreted by the Russell Gunn Electric Quartet). . . The Bad Plus are expected to have a new release in stores this spring . . . I heard a band that reminded me of The Bad Plus recently. Choose to Find is an instrumental “power quartet” comprised of piano, guitar, bass and drums. I thought I heard a bit of Lyle Mays influence in the playing of bandleader Todd Marston. Check out their web site and/or MySpace page. . . Stanley Clarke has signed with Heads Up. Watch for a killer DVD (with guest performances by Stevie Wonder, Wallace Roney, Bela Fleck, Stewart Copeland, Flea, Wayman Tisdale, Marcus Miller, and more) on March 28 and a CD in the summer.
