I posted a number of new tracks I downloaded over the holiday. The newest track I’m playing is the Dimitri and DJ Meme “Step Aside” remix from Incognito’s More Tales Remixed. That is in stores now and is available for download – $8.99 for 12 tracks at Amazon.com.

Sean Miller’s Jazz Pulse program is back and ContemporaryJazz.com Radio has it! Starting in early 2009, you’ll be able to hear it each week but the Jazz Pulse Christmas music program will be playing at times throughout this week. On the show: Brian Culbertson, David Sanborn, Al Jarreau, Jimmy Smith, Al Di Meola, Herb Alpert with Jeff Lorber, Steps Ahead, Spyro Gyra, Michael Franks, Special EFX, and Elgin Wells.

I’m putting together a show that spotlights new contemporary jazz holiday music as well as some of my favorites. You’ll hear the new seasonal sounds from Spyro Gyra, Bob James, David Sanborn, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Joyce Cooling, and Dan Baraszu & Joseph Patrick Moore. I’m pulling various cuts from a number of recordings from my collection for the show as well.

Both shows will run on Christmas Eve, beginning at 8 p.m. CST and again on Christmas Day at noon CST.

In the last three weeks, I added over two dozen new selections to the playlist. Among the tracks are cuts from the latest CDs by Maysa (with Global Noize), S.M.V. (Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten), and John Beasley (from his Letter to Herbie). The weather dropped to below freezing last week so I uploaded Diana Krall’s rendition of Michael Franks’ “Popsicle Toes” as well as Jimmy Smith’s “Jingle Bells.” Of course, there’s more of the acid jazz and nu jazz I love the best, like St. Germain, Praful, and Groove Collective.

In the last few weeks, I’ve added new music from a number of artists I just learned about. Glam Sam and His Combo’s recording is called Groovy and Sam says it’s “cool music. Just cool and funky, with a twist of jazz.” It’s that twist that got my ear. I’ve got two cuts from it playing now. Hit up the MySpace page. You’ll also hear music from recent releases by Miles Bonny, Mocean Worker, and South Froggies. I’ve put my favorite Bob James cover back into rotation – Masters at Work’s “Nautilus (MAWtilus)” from the excellent Nuyorican Soul disc.

Some new releases I added include a band called Funkatized (whose title speaks for itself), the jazzy electronica of Kush, and a track from the re-release of Torso’s Naked Came the She Squid. I’ve put in over 50 other hand-picked selections in the last month. Check it out!
