If you were a fan of the New Adult Contemporary format that preceded smooth jazz, you will love Jazz Pulse, the regular program put together by Sean Miller. Like that classic radio format, Jazz Pulse isn’t stuck on a particular, calculated sound. Sean goes pulls music from all different areas of contemporary jazz: acid jazz, funk-jazz, jam bands, NAC vocalists, and more. It’s an eclectic show.

January sees the U.S. release of More Tales Remixed, the remix compilation of songs from Bluey’s last studio recording, Tales from the Beach. Russell Myrie interviewed Bluey for The Voice earlier in 2008 and noted that 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of the first Incognito release. Jazz Funk. He also perhaps got a peek at what’s next:

“I’ve worked with Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, I played on Earth, Wind and Fire’s album, I’ve worked with George Benson, Chaka Khan. People who I used to dream about only getting a ticket for their gig really at one point in my life. Then there are the DJs like Roger Sanchez and Morales. I would love to make a record with all of these people.”

New Incognito Set for June Release

From the press release: Incognito will make their Heads Up debut with Tales From The Beach, an album scheduled for worldwide release on June 24. Recorded in Italy, Germany, Indonesia and London (and mixed in Jakarta), the release is a refreshing and uplifting 15-track set that captures the best elements of the band’s classic sound: driving rhythms, high-impact horns and stirring lyrics delivered by an array of expressive vocalists. The album title is a reference to Bluey’s musical evolution since his childhood in Mauritius. “When I was a kid, my first taste of music came from the beaches,” he says. “I spent a lot of time listening to the hotel bands, or the bands playing around the bonfires and cookouts. It’s a small island, so there were beaches everywhere. I was always watching live musicians play. So for inspiration for this album, I went back to various beaches around the world – in Italy, Indonesia and elsewhere – and just let the music flow.”
