The welcome trend of remixing the old to make it new continues with Big Band Remixed + Reinvented. Not all remix compilations are a success but, after listening to the samples of this 17-track release, this one is worthy of notice. There was not a miss in my sampling of the samples. With accomplished mixers like DJ Spooky, the Tao of Groove, John Beltran, and Chris Coco, you know it’s going to be interesting. The bands mixed are all A-list too: Pete Fountain, Jimmy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, and Woody Herman among others. I can’t wait to get a copy and play it on TomorrowJazz Radio.
It’s been a good year for quality remix projects. It started with the Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass’ Whipped Cream and Other Delights Rewhipped overhaul and it sounds like it will continue with Big Band Remixed + Reinvented. Look for it in stores on May 23 on the Sunswept label or pre-order it now from Amazon.com (purchase through this link benefits TomorrowJazz.com).
